Investigating traffic safety reckoning hyperbolic driving following behavior using trajectory data

چکیده
Using vehicle trajectory datasets developed over a study section for three traffic flow levels, rectangular hyperbolic relation between time-to-collision and relative speeds in vehicle-following behavior were observed. A new methodology estimating the probable rear-end collisions given stream is based on this relation. The examined terms of hysteresis phenomenon concerning distance gap (DG) speed (RS). Further, follower’s attention towards leader vehicle, novel surrogate safety measure, called Instantaneous Heeding Time (IHT), was conceptualized. This measure represents time available positions follower vehicles. After exploring behavior, IHT, DG, RS used to estimate collision probability. applicability proposed tested using different thresholds (IHT, RS) applied at levels.

Moving objects databases (MODs) store objects’ trajectories by spatiotemporal polylines that approximate the actual movements given by sequences of sensed positions. Determining such a polyline with as few vertices as possible under the constraint that it does not deviate by more than a certain accuracy bound from the sensed positions is an algorithmic problem known as trajectory reduction. A s...
متن کاملLETTER FROM THE GUEST EDITORS Driving Behavior and Traffic Safety in Traffic Engineering
Road safety has been internationally recognized as a primary strategic goal in many societies and involves road user, vehicle and environment elements in a systematic manner. The element of road users represents all aspects of human factors, such as user age, gender, health condition, personality, alcohol use, distraction, driving experience, etc. The vehicle element includes vehicle type, size...
متن کاملDrugs of abuse, driving and traffic safety.
Roadside studies indicate that 1-15% of drivers drive under the influence of one or more drugs of abuse. After drug use, drivers are more often culpable for an accident than non-users. Information on drugs and traffic safety comes from roadside studies, epidemiological research, experimental studies on driving-related skills, and on-the-road driving tests. Road-side studies show that drivers mo...
